🐍 CDC Guidance on Snakebite First Aid
-
🚑 Get medical help immediately – Call 911 or emergency services right away; antivenom is the only effective treatment for venomous snakebites.
-
🧍 Keep the person calm and still – Limit movement to slow the spread of venom; keep the bitten area at or slightly below heart level.
-
💍 Remove tight items – Take off rings, watches, or tight clothing near the bite to allow for swelling.
-
🚫 Do NOT use harmful methods – The CDC advises against cutting the bite, sucking out venom, using tourniquets, ice, electric shock, or alcohol/caffeine.
-
📍 Monitor and document – Note the time of the bite and watch for symptoms (swelling, pain, nausea, trouble breathing) while waiting for help.
